If a player gets hurt in a game, i've read/heard he can be pulled from the game...Just to clarify, what does this entail? Is he eliminated from the batting order, or is he now an automatic out?

If a player is injured during the game, then the team has choices.

1) If he is able to bat and can run, then a courtesy runner may take his place after he has successfully achieved at least first base. A team may only use three courtesy runners per game. NO IPD can be declared. He does not have to play defence if he is not able but the team must field at least eight players on the field.

2) He can take himself out of the game altogether. This must be communicated to the umpire. He cannot bat or play defence nor return to the game. It is NOT an automatic out. The batting line up is just compressed. However, the team must have at least eight players in the game. If the player reduces that number to seven, then it is a forfeit.
